Critical Risks to Gippsland Lakes and Migratory Bird Habitat Exposed in new FOGL Report to DCCEEW

FOGL strongly opposes the proposed Shearwater–Paynesville development, highlighting significant risks to Latham’s Snipe habitat and Gippsland Lakes Ramsar wetland. It identifies serious flaws in habitat mapping and inadequate mitigation measures against ecological disturbances.

Swift Parrots on Raymond Island

21 April 2024

In April 2024, a large flock of Swift Parrots was recorded feeding on lerps in the leaves of mature Southern Mahogany trees on Raymond Island, the most important Swift Parrot habitat site for the Gippsland region. The Southern Mahoganys are located in, and next to a 1ha proposed subdivision site.

July 2023

Official Response from the Minister, acknowledging our letter. Subsequent to this, the developer made a referral under the EPBC Act.
